Savanahs are a hybrid cat, that are the result of breeding the African Serval to a domestic cat, and are the largest hybrid cat at this time. Years of dedicated work have gone into producing this exotic looking house cat.

The Savannah breeding program goal is to create a domestic cat which has all the physical characteristics of the Serval, with the loving temperament of the domestic cat.

Savannahs are wonderful family pets, love children, cats, and dogs. Savannahs use the litter box and do not require special veterinary care.

Kittens resulting from a Serval x domestic breeding = the first generation Savannah (F1 Savannah). The first 3 generations of males are sterile, and most of the 4th generation males also. Therefore breeders needed to breed F1, F2, and F3 females to a domestic cat, before being able to breed Savannah x Savannah.

The F3 generation is the first generation of Savannah allowed to be shown in cat shows.

Savannahs are smaller than a Serval and can weigh up to about 25 lbs., depending upon which generation they are. Colors range from silver to amber to brown to black with clear black spots. They have a "rectangular" shape head with large rounded ears, long legs, and a short thick tail (about 3/4 length tail). Savannahs are very graceful, with a "dog like" personality, are very intelligent and form a strong bond with their owners.

At this time, Tasjmahal can only produce F3 Savannah litters. We are a small Savannah cattery.

Servals make their natural home in the grasslands of Africa. They have the appearance of a miniature cheetah. It is said that the Egyptians kept Servals as living idols and protectors of the grain bins. Servals are an exotic cat and require a permit to own one in most of the USA.
